THE CHALLENGE

The integration of alternative transportation options has been a goal of the County since the adoption of Prince George’s Plan 2035, which focused on methods of improving mobility and advancing transportation options particularly in vulnerable populations.

In 2020, the Department of Public Works and Transportation implemented a pilot Microtransit program to support mobility for vulnerable populations – including seniors and those with reduced access to transit. The program provided low-cost, on-demand, shared vehicle use within a zone to connect users to major destinations and transportation centers.
