Key Crossing Reliability Initiative
Client(s) – Baltimore Gas and Electric
Industry – Utilities, Environmental
Status – Ongoing
BGE owns and operates five high voltage transmission cables that extend under the Patapsco River on the Harbor side of the Francis Scott Key Bridge from Hawkins Point to Sollers Point. These transmission cables were put in service in the early 1970’s and are a critical link in the electrical system. The cables are approaching the end of their useful service life which could result in decreased reliability for the region. BGE is evaluating options to replace these transmission cables prior to losing system reliability.
Assedo Consulting is working with the project team to develop and implement a comprehensive outreach strategy to educate public and elected officials, government agencies and affected communities on the project elements and need. The team is also responsible for coordinating with environmental agencies, environmental interest groups, community leaders and the project team as alternatives are developed to meet permit requirements and mitigation needs within the project area.
