21st Century Parks and Recreation Program

Client(s) – Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks
Industry – Parks and Open Space
Status – Ongoing

Advancing the 21st Century Parks program in Baltimore City is an exciting venture for the residents and stakeholders in the most densely populated city in Maryland. If planned and implemented correctly, it will allow residents from all walks of life to be an active part of the program to move forward to a greener, healthier, and more active Baltimore.

The 21st Century Parks project is developing a strategic plan to transform Baltimore’s existing facilities into a 21st Century Recreation and Park System. The project is identifying and documenting the presence of existing parks and recreation assets and programs, as well as barriers and gaps to accessing the system.  Assedo Consulting is working with BCRP to gather information from a cross-section of users and other interested stakeholders.

Assedo Consulting is working with BCRP staff and a marketing and surveying consultant to identify existing assets, learn about the reputation of the system from users and non-users citywide using a robust survey instrument, and engage a diverse cross section of users and other stakeholders in learning about the system.  The final deliverable is a guiding document that provides recommendations for the City to plan for a future system that equitably serves all users.
