MONICA WATSON
Position: Assistant Project Manager
Responsibilities: In my role, I am responsible for assisting Project Managers and senior leadership with the organization and coordination of ongoing projects; delegating tasks to Assedo’s collective of talented staff as they build in their expertise to specified assignments. I ensure that each task is done to the PM’s standard and that deliverables are timely. Additionally, I am client-facing, being the first point of contact for assigned projects, and making sure to cultivate good client relations. I also attend any orchestrated community outreach efforts, whether in person or virtual.
Why Assedo? From the moment I stepped through the doors of Assedo to interview, I could tell that I was in a room of like-minded people. People with immense talent and capability, but who were down to earth and had a passion for people. I could tell that they cared about their staff beyond just the work they had to do. Since starting with Assedo, I find that my initial assessment has held true. When you feel like your company cares about you as a person, it makes you want to put forth that extra effort.
Background: Living a life of service to God and others is at the core of who I try to be. I am a child of immigrant parents from the Caribbean (Jamaica), so I was the first in my family to attend, and later complete college and university. I graduated from Oakwood University with a BA in communications and print journalism with a minor in business management. I then pursued a Master of Business Management at Washington Adventist University in Takoma Park, Maryland, completing it in December of 2012. I am also a product of the Prince George's County Public Schools System, graduating from Crossland High School in 2002. My initial degree took me to work on Capitol Hill for Morningside Partner LLC. (now ASC Services) as a Congressional Editor, revising and formatting political documents for the company's newswire, which would later be accessed by numerous national news outlets for their broadcasts. I held this position for two years, before joining the Prince George’s County Council in 2016 as the Constituent Liaison (later promoted to Director of Constitute Services) for Councilmanic District 7, a position that pulled me even deeper into the public service and outreach industry. I spent countless hours in the community, dropping everything at a moment’s notice to ensure every need of my constituents were met to the best of my ability. My diverse and unique skill set has served me well, equipping me with the ability to sympathize and assist with a vast array of issues. Because of my diligence and dedication to my roles throughout my professional career, I have been publicly recognized on several occasions; being nominated for the inaugural cohort of The Greater Washington Community Foundation Nominee, Civic Leadership Awards: Emerging Leaders category, and made one of the 40 dynamic individuals chosen to receive the 2020, Forty Under 40 award, presented through the Prince George’s Social Innovation Fund (PGCSIF). In my personal time, I am also an avid traveler, traveling to 20+ countries in the past 9 years. Countries including Guatemala, Kenya, Egypt, Cyprus, and Cuba. Helping me to become a well-rounded and open minded individual. When I’m not traveling, you will find me exploring one of the DC area’s amazing restaurants, or sites.
