KAYLA WOODS

Position: Planner II

Responsibilities: In my professional work, I combine technical expertise in planning with a constant focus on social determinants and community impact. My skills include writing formal research memorandums and using tools like ArcGIS to present data-heavy narratives in a compelling and accessible way. I’ve participated in diverse projects at various scales, including public engagements and state-level planning initiatives, always striving to connect equity to actionable outcomes in the planning process.

Why Assedo? I strongly believe that, when done right, community engagement can play a key role in increasing access and opportunity in an equitable way. Assedo immediately stands out because of our strong commitment to community engagement and equity. Being a part of a company that doesn’t just talk equity, but practices equity was something I was looking for. Additionally, working alongside strong Black females exceling in the field is something I value and the opportunity to learn from them is something I see as valuable.

Background: I am a community planning professional with three years of experience, dedicated to centering equity in projects spanning transportation, housing, education, and more. My passion for creating a more equitable world began during my undergraduate studies in Health Studies and Sociology at the University of Richmond, where I explored the social determinants of health and disparities. This journey led me to uncover a deeper interest in addressing inequities rooted in neighborhood opportunities and access, ultimately guiding me to earn my Master’s in Community Planning from the University of Maryland – College Park.

Outside of work, my life revolves around my relationship with God and the community that supports my journey of faith and love for others. I also stay busy as a professional track and field athlete, competing as a long jumper—so keep an eye out for me next time you tune into a track meet!
