GARY WITHERSPOON

Position: Senior Project Manager

Responsibilities: At Assedo, I help oversee several projects, from planning through construction or production. They include BGE's Tri-County Transmission Upgrade Projects and BGE's Erdman to Loch Raven Transmission and Substation project. I also contribute to quality control, proofreading, and editing material before it reaches stakeholders.

Why Assedo? I joined Assedo Consulting, LLC, in 2024 to bolster the woman and minority-owned agency’s stellar outreach and communications force.

Background: I came to Assedo from the Maryland Department of Transportation, where I spent eight years doing communications and outreach—from the State Secretary’s office to the Purple Line Light Rail project connecting Prince George’s and Montgomery counties in the suburbs north of the nation’s capital. Before that, I spent 30 years at daily newspapers, doing widely recognized work at such outlets as The Boston Globe, The Boston Herald, Newsday, and The Baltimore Sun. I was part of the Newsday team that won the 1997 Pulitzer Prize in Journalism for coverage of the downing of TWA Flight 800 off Long Island, New York. I am a graduate of Brooks School and Dartmouth College. I earned a certificate in Multi-Cultural Management from the University of Missouri School of Journalism. I am a trained facilitator and a Certified Maryland Procurement Officer. I love basketball and am a football referee. I am a married father of four, a deacon at St. John Baptist Church in Columbia, Maryland, and lead a song on the male chorus’ 2018 album Revealed.
