THE CHALLENGE

The Baltimore and Potomac (B&P) Tunnel in Baltimore is more than 150 years old, making it the oldest tunnel Amtrak inherited along the Northeast Corridor (NEC). Meanwhile, Baltimore City is advancing efforts to create a system of connected, multi-use trails that expand mobility options for residents and visitors alike. The Baltimore Greenway Trails Project supports this vision by developing a 35-mile continuous greenway network throughout the city. Once complete, the trail system will link neighborhoods with parks, waterfronts, historic landmarks, schools, and business districts—promoting sustainable transportation and environmental stewardship.

MASTER PLAN DEVELOPMENT

The greenway would promote a variety of transportation options like walking, biking, and running, while promoting recreation throughout the City. The Baltimore City Department of Transportation will develop 30% concept designs for the Northern Segments of the Baltimore Greenway Trails Network. The Northern Segments portion of this project spans from Gwynns Falls Park to Lake Montebello, and the goal is to provide equitable access to open space, recreation, and a safe means of transportation.
