THE CHALLENGE
The Maryland Aviation Administration (MAA) needed to update the Airport Noise Zone (ANZ) for Martin State Airport and the ANZ and Noise Abatement Plan (NAP) for Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport. They needed to solicit and capture meaningful public input for each of the plans so they could be approved by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
EARLY ACTIONS
Prepare comprehensive engagement strategy
Facilitate a series of stakeholder sessions and capture major input for the plan
Document the public process in a formal Administrative Record
ASSEDO’S IMPACT
The program required members of the public to have an opportunity for active and direct participation in the development of the plans. Assedo devised a comprehensive engagement strategy to identify key stakeholders to the process, convene them, share information, and collect feedback that could inform the final plan. With the support of a trained Facilitator and team of public engagement professionals, the Assedo team led a series of Stakeholder Advisory Committee and public workshops to help translate the very complex and technical concepts associated with noise impacts of planes traveling in the vicinity of the airport to those who live, work and interact with daily airport operations.
